Saraswani, 11 ans, son frère Wikaska, 9 ans, et la petite Kiran, 7 ans, vivent sur la ferme de la famille Singh depuis maintenant trois ans, après la mort de leurs parents dans un accident.Tous les trois étudient à l’école locale de Ratama, où Saraswati se classe parmi les meilleurs de sa classe.
Saraswani, 11, her brother Wikaska, 9, and little sister Kiran, 7, have been living on the Singh’s farm for three years now. After their parents died in an accident, the Singh family took care of them, providing food and shelter on the farm. All three of them study at the local school of Ratama where Saraswati ranks among the best of her class.

1 7 heures, Wikaska rallume le feu avec un fagot de petit bois mort / 7 AM is time for Wikaska to start the fire with dry wood from a small bundle.
2 Saraswati souffle sur une tasse de chai brûlant. Le lait de Buffle est assez riche pour un petit déjeuner consistant / Saraswati blows on a steaming hot cup of chai. Buffallo milk is rich enough for a good breakfast.
3 8 heures, Saraswati nettoie le sol de la chambre avec un balai à main, typiquement indien / At 8 AM, Saraswati sweeps up the floor with a typical handheld indian broom.
4 Kiran adresse une prière matinale à Hanuman, le Dieu singe, au temple voisin / Kiran adresses a morning prayer to Hanuman, the Ape God, at the neighbouring temple.
5 Wikaska rapporte un seau de lait de la ferme voisine / Wikaska fetches a bucket of milk from the neighbour’s farm.
6 Saraswati et Kiran se rendent à l’école pour la cloche de 9 heures / Saraswati and Kiran head to school for the 9 o’clock bell.
7 Saraswati et sa classe suivent avec attention un cours de geometrie à l’ombre des arbres de la cour / Saraswati and her class attend a geometry lesson in the cool shade of the playground.
8 Après l’école, les enfants du voisinage se réunissent pour réviser et finir leurs devoirs / After school, the village children get together to study and finish their homeworks.
9 Une banane au goûter est une friandise attendue / A banana as an afternoon snack is a welcomed delicacy.
10 Membres de la famille, amis et ouvriers de la ferme se relaient pour prendre soin des orphelins / Family members, friends and workers all relay to take care of the ophans.
11 Wikaska et Saraswati démontrent leur talent pour les danses locales / Wikaska and Saraswati demonstrating their talent at mastering local dances.
12 Le défi du Jalabi. Les gâteaux sucrés sont attachés à une corde mouvante, le jeu consistant à sauter pour les attraper sans les mains ! / The jalabi race. The sugary cookies are tied to a moving rope, and you’ll have to jump to try to catch it with your mouth, but without using your hands !
13 A travers toute l’Asie, le cerf volant est un classique des jeux d’enfants, particulièrement au moment de la saison des vents, en décembre / All troughout Asia, kyte is a must among children’s games, especially during windy season in december.
14 Surej, un ami de la famille, soulève Wikaska et Kiran, effrayé par un chien du voisinage / Surej, a family friend, lifts up Wikaska and Kiran after the two got frightened by a barking dog in the neighbourhood.
