Une émeute qui a choqué la population s'en est suivie. Le revenu moyen de la circonscription Bourassa, où est situé l'arrondissement, est le plus pauvre au Canada. Le quartier conserve aussi un esprit communautaire, comme un village qui aurait grandit trop vite. Dans les années 1950, on cultivait encore des terres dans le quartier. The borough still feels like a village that grew-up too fast. In the fifties, most of the land was still cultivated. In 1915, there were less than a thousand people and in 1976 there were close to 100,000. «Here we are tightly knit, like a village», explains Jean Touchette, director of the local centre for development.
