Valérian Mazataud est un photographe documentaire indépendant basé à Montréal, Canada. Il s’intéresse particulièrement aux thèmes de l’immigration et des ressources naturelles.
Photographe autodidacte depuis 2009, il est détenteur d’un diplôme d’ingénieur agronome avec une spécialité en environnement marin. Ses projets photographiques l’ont amené à travailler au Moyen-Orient, en Afrique ou en Amérique Latine.
Il est représenté en France par le studio Hans Lucas. Ses images ont été publiées dans le Monde, der Spiegel, le Point, Telerama, Libération. Il a également collaboré avec TV5, Radio-Canada, Le Devoir, La Presse, The Walrus, Nouveau Projet, Oxfam et Handicap International.
Il est récipiendaire de plusieurs prix et bourses en photographie et en journalisme au Canada et à l’étranger. Ses photographies ont été exposées lors des festivals Voies-Off à Arles, Contact à Toronto, Art Souterrain à Montréal, et Zoom à Saguenay, ainsi que dans plusieurs galeries et centre d’artistes de Montréal.
Il a travaillé en tant que biologiste marin, moniteur de plongée, éducateur scientifique et clown. Il a également effectué un tour du monde à vélo de plus de 21000 km à travers les cinq continents entre 2002 et 2004.

Valerian Mazataud is a freelance documentary photographer based in Montreal, Canada. He has a strong focus on immigration and natural resources.
A self taught photographer since 2009, he owns a Msc in agronomy with a specialty in marine biology. He has worked on projects in the Middle-East, Africa, or Latin America.
He is represented by Studio Hans Lucas in France. His images have been published in Le Monde, der Spiegel, Le point, Telerama or Liberation. He has also contributed to TV5, Radio-Canada, Le Devoir, La Presse, The Walrus, Chatelaine, Oxfam and Handicap International.
He has won awards and grants in photography and journalism, in Canada and abroad. His images have been exhibited during the Voies-Off festival in Arles, Contact festival in Toronto, Art souterrain in Montreal, and Zoom in Saguenay, as well as in galleries and artist run centres in Montreal.
He has worked as a marine biologist, a scuba-diving instructor, a science educator and a clown. He also cycled 21000 km around the world and along the five continents between 2002 and 2004.
